Laapataa Ladies is India’s official entry to the Oscars 2025

The movie has reportedly been chosen from 12 Hindi movies, 6 Tamil movies and 4 Malayalam movies.

Laapataa Girls which launched in theatres earlier this 12 months marked Kiran Rao’s comeback as a director after Dhobi Ghat. It premiered on the Toronto Worldwide Movie Pageant 2023.

Kiran Rao shared, “I’m deeply honoured and past delighted that our movie ‘Laapataa Girls’ has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. This recognition is a testomony to the tireless work of my whole workforce, whose dedication and fervour introduced this story to life. Cinema has at all times been a robust medium to attach hearts, transcend boundaries, and ignite significant conversations. I hope that this movie will resonate with audiences internationally, simply because it has in India.”

It stays to be seen if the movie will make it to the 97th Academy Awards shortlist.
