The argument over singles versus EPs versus full-length albums has been raging for years, actually ever for the reason that rise of streaming providers. Counterparts and End vocalist Brendan Murphy not too long ago weighed in on why he loves the EP format throughout an interview with New Noise Magazine, although it would not have something to do with streaming providers and the enterprise behind all of it.
“Proper now, if it had been as much as me, I might need to do EPs for the remainder of the careers of each of my bands,” wrote Murphy. “Moving into and doing six bangers in two weeks is a lot cooler to me than going and spending 5 weeks within the studio and writing all these songs, chopping songs as a result of one would not make sense or ‘that is a B-Aspect,’ doing the album rollout, and asserting an album that is out in six months. As a result of we booked the studio for 5 weeks, we had the fabric to do a full-length.”
Murphy additionally talked slightly about why it isn’t possible to solely do EPs, saying that labels need full-length information to push.
“I do know that every one labels do not need to do EPs. They need full-length albums, and so they wanna push it. There’s extra that you are able to do with a full-length file; I get that. I’d like to do EPs. There’s extra freedom. We simply did a heavy EP with six brief, quick songs. What if we did an EP with 4 songs that had been slower and extra emotional? Then we do three songs, and it is again to regular Counterparts. I’d love to try this, to go in and say, ‘OK, what can we really feel like doing?'”
