Late filmmaker Shyam Benegal’s memorial service was held right now in Mumbai within the presence of his members of the family and shut trade colleagues. In attendance have been some outstanding names from the trade and his collaborators similar to Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Naseeruddin Shah, Ila Arun and Lillete Dubey. Divya Dutta, Urmila Matondkar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Vardhan Puri have been additionally in attendance.
Azmi made her debut with Shyam Benegal’s movie Ankur in 1974. She recalled her affiliation with him and mentioned Benegal was like his guru. Nevertheless, she shared that the revered filmmaker didn’t wish to be known as anybody’s guru as he handled everybody as his equal.

She mentioned, “He did not wish to be known as anybody’s guru. However he was my guru. Not as a result of he was my first director, but in addition as a result of by simply being round him, I learnt so many classes of life. He wished to be neither my guru nor my mentor. He was my good friend, my equal and he created that house for that friendship.”
Naseeruddin Shah and Atul Tiwari, too, paid tribute to Benegal. Shah made his debut with Benegal’s movie Nishant. Tiwari lately penned a e-book on the filmmaker titled Maestro which he gifted to Benegal’s members of the family Nira and Pia Benegal throughout the service. Ending the memorial, Shabana Azmi, Atul Tiwari and others known as themselves Benegal’s household.

The filmmaker handed away on December 23 after affected by a continual kidney illness.
