Verve Records has introduced a brand new album from the late jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove. The album, Grande-Terre, is attributed to the ensemble Roy Hargrove’s Crisol, and it comes out on October 18. Beneath, hearken to the brand new observe “Priorities.”
Roy Hargrove’s Crisol launched only one studio album, Habana, through the titular bandleaders’s lifetime. It earned Hargrove and the group the 1998 Grammy Award for Greatest Latin Jazz Efficiency.
Featured on the award-winning document have been trumpeter and flugelhorn participant Hargrove; trombonist Frank Lacy; soprano and tenor saxophonist David Sánchez; alto and soprano saxophonist Gary Bartz; bassist John Benitez; percussionists Miguel “Anga” Díaz and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana; drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernández; guitarist Russell Malone; and pianist Chucho Valdés.
Lots of the musicians returned to the studio after Habana to create what’s now being launched as Grande-Terre. The returning gamers on the brand new album are: Roy Hargrove, Frank Lacy, Miguel “Anga” Díaz, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana. New additions to the ensemble embrace: alto saxophonist Sherman Irby; tenor saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart; pianists Gabriel Hernández and Larry Willis; guitarist Ed Cherry; bassist Gerald Cannon; drummer and vocalist Julio Barreto; and drummer Willie Jones.
