Whoopi Goldberg will hit the street this vacation season with a touring manufacturing of the favored musical Annie. She’ll play the villainous Miss Hannigan, who runs an orphanage and terrorizes Annie and the opposite little women.
Oh, and Miss Hannigan will get the second largest showstopping tune of your complete present (after “Tomorrow,” after all): Together with a pair criminals she recruits, Hannigan celebrates the shady plan with “Straightforward Road.”
Goldberg will play the function on the tour’s Chicago and New York engagements. In Chicago, musical performs the Chicago Theatre from November 12 by means of December 1. From there, Annie arrives in New York for a restricted five-week engagement at The Theater at Madison Sq. Backyard from December 4, 2024 by means of January 5, 2025.
Goldberg, the moderator of ABC’s The View, is not any stranger to the New York stage. She has appeared on Broadway seven instances, from her groundbreaking 1984 solo present Whoopi Goldberg to Sister Act, her most up-to-date in 2011.
“I really like the theatre, and in my thoughts, there isn’t any higher approach to spend the vacations than to get again on stage,” Goldberg stated in a press release. “I can’t wait to step in to the scrumptious function of Miss Hannigan and carry out for the best audiences on the planet – in my hometown of New York Metropolis.”
Extra casting will likely be introduced, with full Fairness casts for Chicago, New York Metropolis “and past,” producers stated.
Annie took Broadway by storm when it first arrived in 1977, profitable seven Tony Awards together with Greatest Musical and making stars of younger Andrea McArdle and giving Broadway vet Dorothy Loudon her signature function in Miss Hannigan.
Charles Strouse, who co-wrote the well-known rating with the late Martin Charnin, stated bringing Annie again to New York Metropolis is “a dream come true,” and that “having the long-lasting Whoopi Goldberg be part of the corporate and make her first look ever in a manufacturing of Annie is a present to us all! I do know Martin and Tom [Thomas Meehan, the late book writer) would be thrilled, too.”
The tour is produced by Carolyn Rossi Copeland Productions Inc. and Crossroads Live North America and directed by Jenn Thompson. For a complete list of tour dates, visit the tour’s website.
